Dinard is a French commune in the department of Ille-et-Vilaine in the region of Brittany . The city is located at the mouth of the Rance across from Saint-Malo and has 9,846 inhabitants (as of 2014).

history

Dinard is often called the Nice of the North and the Pearl of the Emerald Coast . It became a seaside resort for wealthy English people in the 19th century, which has left traces to this day in the form of numerous villas of English architecture with verandas and sliding windows. In the 1880s, Dinard was the first seaside resort in France.

economy

The main industry of the city is still tourism. There are four beaches: the very wide main beach Plage de l'Écluse in the city center, Plage de Saint-Enogat , which is lined with magnificent villas, Plage du Prieuré with a view of the old town of Saint-Malo and Plage du Port-Blanc with a water sports center .

traffic

There is a ferry connection to Saint-Malo opposite. A TGV that connects with Paris also stops there .

The regional airport Aéroport Dinard Bretagne is located five kilometers southwest of the city center .

Town twinning

There are city partnerships with Starnberg in Germany and Newquay in England. Dinard is also a founding member of the Federation of European Napoleonic Cities .
