Wolfgang Hunger (born July 19, 1960 in Kiel ) is a former German regatta sailor and orthopedist .

biography

After Wolfgang Hunger's father bought an optimist in 1968 , Wolfgang Hunger and his brothers Joachim and Klaus began to gain experience in sailing on the Kiel Fjord . When the family moved from Hanover to Berlin in 1970, the brothers sailed on the Wannsee .

Together with his brother Joachim took Wolfgang Hunger at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles and 1988 in Seoul in part. Both times the brothers started together in regattas with the 470 dinghy . However, they missed the medal ranks with places 4 (1984) and 5 (1988). In his third Olympic participation in 1992 in Barcelona , he also took part in the regatta with the 470 dinghy , but this time he started with Rolf Schmidt and finished eighth.

At the sailing world championships , Wolfgang Hunger and his brother won the silver medal with the 470 dinghy in 1983 and 1986. With Schmidt he became world champion in this class in 1990 and 1991. He was world champion seven times with the 505 dinghy .

He won the Kiel Week 21 times .
