Martin Zawieja (born January 31, 1963 in Dortmund ) is a former German weightlifter who worked as a national trainer and head of a sports promotion group in the Bundeswehr.

Life

Martin Zawieja was a competitive weightlifting athlete from 1983 to 1992.

He won bronze in the super heavyweight division (over 110 kg) at the 1988 Olympic Games . In 1991 he finished 3rd at the World Cup. In 1984, 1990 and 1991 he was German champion in his discipline.

In 1993 Martin Zawieja studied at the trainer academy in Cologne, where he graduated in 1996 as a qualified trainer in weightlifting.

In 1997 and 1999 he was a German master coach with AC Soest , from 2001 to 2006 he was junior national coach and from 2002 to 2005 national coach for women. In the same period he was federal instructor in the Federal Association of German Weightlifters (BVDG).

Martin Zawieja has been a lecturer at the Cologne Trainer Academy since 1999 and has been an instructor at the Baden-Württemberg Weightlifting Association since 2008. In 1994 he was elected deputy chairman of the active advisory board. Until 2000 he was a member of the NOK Presidium and in 1996 and 2000 athlete spokesman for the German Olympic team. Martin Zawieja was the athletic trainer of the national handball team from 2011 to 2014. He is also responsible for the athletic area of ​​young men in the German Handball Federation. Martin Zawieja has been working as a DFB barbell expert since 2006 and looks after the U-national male teams. Since 2010 he has been successfully doing "barbell athletics" together with Christian Thomas. Both shape the content of barbell training in many sports. In recent years the barbell trainer has been established by barbell experts in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. A new initiative is the development of barbell training in Ireland and England. There are already collaborations and contacts with Setanta College and Arsenal London. Martin Zawieja is responsible for strength and athletic training in the Austrian Ring Sports Association (ÖRSV). He is currently responsible for the athletics of HSC Coburg (2nd Bundesliga handball).

For winning the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in 1988 he was awarded the silver laurel leaf - together with all German medalists.
