Armin Görtz (born August 30, 1959 in Dortmund ) is a former German soccer player .
Athletic career
Armin Görtz played as a defender and midfielder mainly on the left wing. He began his career in the early 1980s with Eintracht Frankfurt and FSV Frankfurt and tried his luck in the first Belgian league with Beveren and Waregem from 1983 . In the 1985/86 season he was with Waregem in the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup and lost there against 1. FC Köln . However, in these two games he was noticed by those responsible for the traditional Cologne club and they brought him to Cologne for the next season . There he developed into a permanent fixture under the still young coach Christoph Daum . In 1988 he made two appearances in the German national team under Franz Beckenbauer . In September of this year, Görtz won the bronze medal with the Olympic team at the Games in Seoul .
For this success he received - together with the German Olympic football team - the silver laurel leaf.
With 1. FC Köln he was German runner-up in 1989 and 1990. In 1990 he moved to Hertha BSC , but rose with the Berliners from the Bundesliga in the same season . Nevertheless, he stayed in Berlin and played in the 2nd division for two years before ending his career in 1993 due to injuries. In total, he made 144 appearances in the 1st Bundesliga and scored 9 goals.
