Marion Aizpors

Marion Aizpors (born February 18, 1961 in Ludwigsburg ) is a former German swimmer who competed for the Federal Republic of Germany . Her Latvian grandfather Aleksandrs Aizpors-Čaplis took part in the liberation struggles of the Republic of Latvia in 1919 and was awarded the Lāčplēša Kara ordenis ( Bear Ripper Order) 3rd class in 1921 ; towards the end of the Second World War he went into western exile.

Marion Aizpors was multiple German champion in freestyle and back distances in the 1980s, and she started for SGS Münster and SG Gladbeck during her active time .

Aizpors celebrated first successes at national championships in 1979 , when she emerged as the winner in the 100 m and 200 m freestyle. In the following year she was able to defend her title over 100 m freestyle and won three German championship titles over 100 m back in 1980 , 1981 and 1982 . From 1983 Svenja Schlicht dominated this route and Marion Aizpors had to be satisfied with second places several times. In 1987 she won the 50 m back. Marion Aizpors was most successful at the German Championships in Dortmund in 1989 , where she won three titles over 50 m and 100 m freestyle, as well as over 100 m back.

At the European Championships in Split in 1981 , she won silver behind the GDR relay with the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay together with Susanne Schuster , Karin Seick and Ute Neubert . At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 Aizpors reached the finals over 100 m back, which they just missed over 50 m freestyle, but could decide the B final for themselves. With the 4 × 100 m freestyle relay and the 4 × 100 m individual relay relay of the DSV , she took seventh place.
