After the boycott of the 1984 Olympic Games at the XXIV Summer Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988, Afghanistan took part in the Summer Olympic Games for the ninth time. A seven-person delegation traveled to the South Korean capital: the five athletes were accompanied by two officials. All athletes competed in wrestling.
