Guido Schumacher

Guido Schumacher (born December 14, 1965 in Wermelskirchen ) is a former German judoka , in 1990 he was European lightweight champion.

Athletic career

The 1.76 m tall Guido Schumacher was fifth in the Junior World Championships in 1983 and third in the Junior European Championships in the half-light weight category, up to 65 kilograms. In 1986 he was third in the military world championships and won his only German championship title. At the European Championships in Pamplona in 1988 , Schumacher reached the final and won the silver medal behind the Frenchman Bruno Carabetta . Four months after the European Championships, Schumacher entered the Olympic Games in Seoul , but retired in his opening fight after 52 seconds against the Bulgarian Ivan Kostadinow .

In 1989 Schumacher switched to lightweight, the weight class up to 71 kilograms. In 1989 he won the World Masters in Rüsselsheim, in 1990 he finished third in the tournament. At the European Championships in 1990 in Frankfurt am Main, he defeated the Hungarian Bertalan Hajtós in the quarter -finals, the Turks Alparslan Ayan in the semifinals and the Finn Jorma Kokkonen in the final . In 1991 and 1992 Schumacher was third in the German championships.

In 1988 Schumacher was a member of the Budo Club SC Remscheid . He later fought for VfL Wolfsburg and VfL Sindelfingen, among others .
