The A48 road ( English for road A48 ) is a 262 km long road in Wales and England, which is partially designated as a primary route and which connects the city of Carmarthen with Gloucester as European route 30 . For a short stretch it has the character of the A48 (M) motorway.
course
The A48 branches off in Carmarthen from the A40 road , which until then formed the E30 coming from the Irish Sea and continues as a dual carriageway on the E30 in the direction of the M4 motorway , which continues the E30 at junction 49 Pont Abraham. The A48 loses its character as a primary route and mostly continues parallel to the M4 as a simple country road, bypassing Swansea in the north and passing via Neath , Port Talbot and Bridgend to Cardiff , which it bypasses again as a primary route in the north. East of Cardiff there is a connection to the M4 via the A48 (M). The A48 leads to Newport , then moves away from the coast and crosses the M4 at its junction 24. From there it runs mostly north of the M4 to Chepstow , becomes the primary route again and now follows the Severn parallel to its west bank the county of Gloucestershire . West of Gloucester , it joins the A40 at Highnam and ends.
