European Judo Championships 1988
The 1988 European Judo Championships took place in Pamplona from 19 to 22 May . Before that, the European Men's Championships in 1973 and the European Women's Championships in 1981 took place in Spain.
The hosting Spanish team won six medals. A total of five title holders from the previous year also won in 1988. Grigory Weritschew had fought for the title in the open class last year, this time he won the heavyweight division. Defended their title: Baschir Varajew in the light middleweight division, Fabien Canu in the middleweight division, Catherine Arnaud in the lightweight division and Ingrid Berghmans in the open class.
