Udo "Quelle" Quellmalz (born March 8, 1967 in Leipzig ) is a German judoka .

Life

Udo Quellmalz started judo in 1975 and attended the children's and youth sports school in Leipzig from the age of 14 . From 1979 to 1990 he started for SC Leipzig and was looked after by the coaches Norbert Littkopf and Helmut Howiller . In 1990 he moved to Bavaria and became a member of the judo team of TSV Abensberg . Von Abensberg switched to MTV Ingolstadt in 1992 and trained there with Harald Heinke until 1998 . In 1984 he was European champion in the U21 age group. At the Summer Olympics in Atlanta in 1996 he won the gold medal in the half-light weight up to 65 kg. Udo Quellmalz was also world champion twice (1991 in Barcelona and 1995 in Japan). He has the 7th Dan .

Quellmalz has a university degree as a certified sports teacher from DHfK Leipzig and is also a trained wholesale and foreign trade merchant. He ended his active career in 1998 and worked for six years as sports director and national coach for the British Judo Federation. For the Austrian Judo Association (ÖJV) he was employed as a technical trainer from 2007 and from 2009 to 2012 as a national trainer. Ludwig Paischer and Sabrina Filzmoser took care of this . After the termination of his contract with the ÖJV, Quellmalz moved to Qatar for professional reasons , where he works as a sports teacher.

For his sporting successes he received the silver laurel leaf on June 23, 1993.
