Joshiro Maruyama

Joshiro Maruyama ( Japanese 丸 山城 志 郎 Maruyama Joshiro ; born August 11, 1993 ) is a Japanese judoka . In 2019 he became world champion in the weight class up to 66 kilograms.

Athletic career

Joshiro Maruyama fights in the half-light weight, the weight class up to 66 kilograms. At the Japanese Championships in 2016, he finished second behind Hifumi Abe . At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro launched Masashi Ebinuma of Japan. At the end of 2017, Maruyama finished second behind Hifumi Abe at the Grand Slam tournament in Tokyo. Two months later he also reached the final of the Grand Slam tournament in Paris and finished second behind the South Korean An Ba-ul . The two also met in the final of the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and the South Korean won again. At the end of 2018, Maruyama won the Grand Slam tournament in Osaka, and in early 2019 he won in Düsseldorf. In April 2019, he defeated Hifumi Abe at the Japanese championships. In August 2019 at the World Championships in Tokyo , the two met in the semi-finals and Maruyama won, in the final he defeated the South Korean Kim Lim-hwan .
