Junpei Morishita

Junpei Morishita ( Japanese 森 下 純平 , Morishita Junpei ; * April 5, 1990 ) is a former Japanese judoka . In 2010 he was world champion in the half-light weight category, up to 66 kilograms.

Athletic career

Junpei Morishita was the 2009 Junior World Champion. At the 2010 World Championships in Tokyo , he defeated the Mongol Chaschbaataryn Tsagaanbaatar in the quarter -finals, the French Loïc Korval in the semi-finals and the Brazilian Leandro Cunha in the final . At the 2010 Asian Games , which were held two months after the World Championships in Guangzhou, he was defeated in the semifinals to South Korean Kim Joo-jin , but then won a bronze medal. At the beginning of February 2011 he won the Grand Slam tournament in Paris , a week later at the World Cup tournament in Budapest. In the final of the Asian Championships in Abu Dhabi in April 2011 Chaschbaataryn Tsagaanbaatar and Junpei Morishita faced each other and Morishita won. Morishita's winning streak ended at the 2011 World Championships in Paris , where he was eliminated in his third fight against Igor Soroca from the Republic of Moldova. In 2012 he finished second behind Masashi Ebinuma at the Japanese championships . Ebinuma then also represented Japan at the 2012 Olympic Games. At the end of 2012, Junpei Morishita won the final of the Grand Slam tournament in Tokyo . In 2013 he won the East Asian Games. After 2013 he was no longer active internationally.
