Loïc Korval (born May 15, 1988 in Nogent-sur-Marne ) is a former French judoka . In 2010 he was third in the world championship, in 2014 European champion and in 2015 European championship runner-up.

Athletic career

Loïc Korval won his first international medal in the weight class up to 50 kilograms in 2002 when he was third in the European Cadet Championships. As an adult, the 1.73 m tall Loïc Korval fought mostly at half-light weight, the weight class up to 66 kilograms. In 2009 he won his first World Cup tournament in Tallinn . At the 2010 European Championships in Vienna, he lost to the Austrian Andreas Mitterfellner in the quarter-finals . With a victory over the Armenian Armen Nazarjan in the round of hope Korval reached the fight for a bronze medal, which he lost to the Slovenian Rok Drakšič . In 2011 and 2013 Korval won the French championships. In early 2014 he took third place at the Grand Slam in Paris . At the 2014 European Championships in Montpellier, he defeated the Ukrainian Heorhij Santaraja in the quarter-finals and the Spaniard Sugoi Uriarte in the semifinals . There was then a purely French final, which Loïc Korval won against David Larose . At the 2014 World Championships in Chelyabinsk, Korval reached the semi-finals with a victory over the Uzbek Rishod Sobirov . After defeats against the Japanese Masashi Ebinuma and the Russian Kamal Chan-Magomedow , Korval finished fifth. In May 2015 he took third place at the Grand Slam in Baku . In 2017 Korval competed in the lightweight, the weight class up to 73 kilograms. At the 2017 European Championships , he was eliminated in the round of 16 against the Israeli Tohar Butbul . He then worked as a trainer in Serbia, but returned as an active judoka at the end of 2018.
