Sugoi Uriarte Marcos (born May 14, 1984 in Vitoria-Gasteiz ) is a former Spanish judoka . He was runner-up at the 2009 European Championships and 2010 European Champion.

Athletic career

The 1.72 m tall Sugoi Uriarte fought in the half-light weight, the weight class up to 66 kilograms. In 2006 he was third in the U23 European Championships. In 2007 he reached the finals at the Universiade in Bangkok and was defeated by the Azerbaijani Ramil Gasimov . In 2008 Uriarte won his only Spanish championship title. In the same year he also won the World Cup tournament in Madrid. In 2009 he reached the final of the Grand Slam in Moscow and lost to the Mongol Chaschbaataryn Tsagaanbaatar . At the European Championships 2010 in Vienna Uriarte reached the final with a semi-final victory over the Austrian Andreas Mitterfellner , in the final he defeated Miklós Ungvári. At the 2010 World Championships in Tokyo, Uriarte lost to the Brazilian Leandro Cunha in the semifinals . In the battle for bronze he lost to Chaschbaataryn Tsagaanbaatar. Uriarte's greatest success of 2011 was reaching the final at the Grand Slam in Rio de Janeiro , where he was defeated by the Russian Musa Moguschkow . In 2012 Uriarte started at the Olympic Games in London . After four wins he was defeated in the semifinals against Miklós Ungvári, he lost the battle for bronze against the South Korean Cho Jun-ho .

In 2013 Uriarte won the Mediterranean Games in Mersin. At the 2013 World Championships in Rio de Janeiro, he finished seventh. In 2014 he was fifth at the European Championships in Montpellier .
