Armen Nazarjan ( Armenian Արմեն Նազարյան ; born June 20, 1982 in Hrasdan , Armenian SSR ) is an Armenian judoka .

biography

Armen Nazarjan started judo in 1990 at the sports school in Hrazdan. Nasarjan was initially interested in boxing , but switched to judo in 1993 . Since 1995 he has been trained by Karen Abagyan. In 2003 he became European Youth Champion and won a bronze medal at the 2003 Adult Judo European Championships. At the European Judo Championships in 2004 he won a bronze medal again the following year and took part in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens . At the European Judo Championships 2005 in Rotterdam , Nazarjan won a gold medal in the weight class up to 60 kg. He won all five fights and defeated the reigning European champion Ludwig Paischer from Austria in the final . With this success, Nazarjan went down in history as the first European champion in the history of Armenian judo.

Nasarjan also won a gold medal at the 2005 World Cup in Tallinn . The next year he won a silver medal at the 2006 European Judo Championships. In 2007, Nazarjan rose to a heavier weight class (up to 66 kg) and won a bronze medal at the 2007 Summer Universiade in Bangkok . Nasaryan won a gold medal at the 2008 Super World Cup in Moscow and participated in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. At the 2012 Summer Olympics , Nazaryan took part in the Olympic Games for the third time. He announced before the Olympics that it would be the last time he would compete.

After his sports career, Nazarjan worked as a trainer. In December 2015 he was appointed national team coach of the Armenian judo team.
