Yukimasa Nakamura

Yukimasa Nakamura ( Japanese 中 村 行 成 , Nakamura Yukimasa , born August 28, 1972 in Fukuoka Prefecture ) is a former Japanese judoka . He was Olympic runner-up in 1996 and world champion in 1993 in the light weight division.

Career

The 1.72 m tall Yukimasa Nakamura was Junior World Champion in 1990. In 1993 he won the Tournoi de Paris . At the 1993 World Championships in Hamilton , he defeated Jimmy Pedro from the United States in the semifinals . In the final he won against the Swiss Eric Born . At the Asian Games in Hiroshima in 1994 he won the final against the Kazakhs Ivan Karazelidi . The following year at the 1995 World Championships in Chiba , he won the semifinals over the Hungarian József Csák , and lost the final against the German Udo Quellmalz . In 1996 he won the Tournoi de Paris for the second time .

At the Olympic Games in Atlanta he defeated the Bulgarian Ivan Netow in the quarter-finals by Ippon, in the semifinals he won against the Hungarian József Csák by a Yuko rating. In the final he was defeated by Udo Quellmalz by referee decision (yusei-gachi).

In 1998 he defended his title from 1994 at the Asian Games in Bangkok . The following year he won the World Cup tournament in Paris for the third time. In May 2000 he won the Asian Championships in Osaka. At the Olympic Games in Sydney he won his first two fights and then lost to the Dutchman Patrick van Kalken in the round of 16 . In the hope round he also won twice, after his defeat against the Iranian Ārash Miresmāeli , Nakamura finished in seventh place.

Yukimasa Nakamura's brothers Kenzo Nakamura and Yoshio Nakamura were also world judo champions.
