Yoshio Nakamura

Yoshio Nakamura ( Japanese 中 村 佳 央 , Nakamura Yoshio , born October 22, 1970 in Fukuoka Prefecture ) is a former Japanese judoka . He was world middleweight champion in 1993.

Career

The 1.82 m tall Yoshio Nakamura was third in the 1990 Junior World Championships. In 1991 he won the Asian Championships in Osaka. At the 1993 World Championships in Hamilton , he defeated the Uzbeks Armen Bagdasarov in the semifinals . In the final, he won against Canadian Nicolas Gill .

From 1995 to 1997 Yoshio Nakamura fought in the light heavyweight division. At the Olympic Games in Atlanta he was defeated in the quarterfinals by the French Stéphane Traineau . After beating New Zealander Daniel Gowing in the hope round, he was defeated by Dutchman Ben Sonnemans by referee decision (yusei-gachi) and finished in seventh place. At the 1997 World Championships in Paris he lost to the Brazilian Aurélio Miguel in the semifinals , and he won the battle for a bronze medal against the Romanian Radu Ivan .

In 1998 Yoshio Nakamura switched back to middleweight division. In early 1998 he won the Tournoi de France . In the final of the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok he was defeated by the South Korean Yoo Sung-yeon .

Yoshio Nakamura's brothers Kenzo Nakamura and Yukimasa Nakamura were also world judo champions. At the 1998 Asian Games, all three won a medal.
