Nemanja Majdov

Nemanja Majdov (born August 10, 1996 in Pale ) is a Serbian judoka who competed for Bosnia and Herzegovina until 2012 . In 2017 Majdov was the first Serbian judo world champion.

Athletic career

In 2011 Majdov won his first national championship title in Bosnia and Herzegovina, at that time still in the ultralight. In the same year he also won the championships in the U17, U20 and U23 age groups, the latter being the half-lightweight title. In 2012 it grew into the weight class up to 73 kilograms. In 2013 he became Serbian U18 champion and won a silver medal at the U18 European Championships. In 2014 he switched to the weight class up to 81 kilograms. At the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, he finished fifth. In the team competition, he took second place in the mixed team named after Anton Geesink . One month after the youth games, Majdov won the European Junior Championships. In 2015 he won the Serbian U21 championships and the national championships in the adult class, he won both titles in 2016. In 2016, as in 2014, he won the European Junior Championships.

At the end of 2016 he switched to middleweight, the weight class up to 90 kilograms and won a bronze medal at the U23 European Championships. In 2017 he finished seventh at the European Championships in Warsaw. On September 1, 2017, he defeated Cuban Asley González in the first round of the World Championships in Budapest . After four more wins, he defeated the Hungarian Krisztián Tóth in the semifinals and the Slovenian Mihael Žgank in the final . The following year at the European Championships in Tel Aviv in 2018, he was defeated in the final by Russian Michail Igolnikow . At the Mediterranean Games he lost in the final against the Spaniard Nikoloz Sherazadishvili . In September 2018 he was eliminated from the World Championships in Baku in his first fight against the French Aurelien Diesse . In May 2019, Majdov won the Grand Slam tournament in Baku. At the 2019 World Championships in Tokyo , he defeated Mammadali Mehdiyev from Azerbaijan in the quarter -finals and defeated Noël van 't End from the Netherlands in the semi-finals . With a victory over the Hungarian Krisztián Tóth Majdov won a bronze medal.
