Michail Sergejewitsch Igolnikow ( Russian Михаил Сергеевич Игольников ; born October 15, 1996 in Tuapse ) is a Russian judoka . He was European middleweight champion in 2018.

Career

Michail Igolnikow was the 2011 European Cadet Champion and World Cadet Champion in the weight class up to 66 kilograms. From 2012 to 2014 he competed in the weight class up to 81 kilograms. Here he was the U17 European champion in 2012 and the U18 European champion in 2013. He won a bronze medal at the U18 World Championships in 2013. At the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, he defeated the Serb Nemanja Majdov in the semifinals and the Georgian Tamazi Kirakozashvili in the final . Three days later he also won the team competition. Two months after the youth games, the U21 World Cup took place in Fort Lauderdale. Igolnikow lost in the final to the Brazilian Rafael Macedo .

Since 2015 Igolnikow has been fighting in the middleweight division, the weight class up to 90 kilograms. In 2015 he was third in the U21 European Championships and fifth in the U21 World Championships, and in 2016 he won the U21 European Championships. In 2017 he won the title at the U23 European Championships. At the beginning of 2018 he won the Grand Slam tournament in Düsseldorf , after defeating the Spaniard Nikoloz Sherazadishvili in the semifinals and the Japanese Mashu Baker in the final. Two months later, the 2018 European Championships took place in Tel Aviv . Igolnikow defeated the Georgian Beka Ghwiniaschwili in the quarter-finals and the Spaniard Nikoloz Sherazadishvili in the semifinals. He won the European title by beating the Serbian Nemanja Majdov in the final. At the 2018 World Championships in Baku, Igolnikov was eliminated in the second round against Nikoloz Sherazadishvili. Another month later he won the Grand Slam tournament in Abu Dhabi , where he won the final against the Hungarian Krisztián Tóth . In 2019 Igolnikow took third place at the Grand Slam in Düsseldorf. At the 2019 World Championships in Tokyo, Igolnikov only competed in the team competition and won a bronze medal with the Russian team.
