Tuapse ( Russian Туапсе ; Adyghe ТӀуапсы ) is a Russian district town with 63,292 inhabitants (14 October 2010) in the Krasnodar region .
geography
Tuapse is located on the Black Sea , approx. 100 km southwest of the regional capital Krasnodar . The location on the western foothills of the Caucasus ensures a very mild climate by Russian standards.
history
Tuapse was founded around a fortress in 1838 and is now an important oil port and the end of a pipeline . Until 1875 the settlement was called Weljaminowskoje (Вельяминовское) and from 1875 to 1897 Weljaminowski Posad (Вельяминовский посад). The current name is of Circassian origin and means two rivers based on the two larger rivers that flow into the Black Sea in the urban area (today's names Tuapse and Pauk). In 1916 Tuapse received city rights.
In World War II Tuapse was substantially destroyed. But reconstruction began as early as 1943. Towards the end of 1943, 2840 m² of new living space was created, the electrical works, the bread factory, the meat combine, the fruit processing factory and the fish factory were again intact.
In 1959 the "Rossija" cinema was opened and it still exists today.
In 1963 the hotel "Tuapse" was built. There were 200 guest rooms in the building complex.
In 1970 a beer, a wine and a shoe factory was established in Tuapse. The harbor and the promenade have been completely reconstructed.
In 1976 the city was visited by a delegation from the French city of Agen . A town twinning agreement was signed.
In May 1981 the city was awarded the Order of the Great Patriotic War, 2nd class. In May 1985 he was awarded the Order of the Great Patriotic War, 1st class.
In 1985 a seaman's hospital was established, which has been called the Pirogow Clinic since 2008.
In 1995 Tuapse joined the Association of Small Towns of Russia . In 1996 the city Duma adopted the city statute.
In 2005 Tuapse received its current coat of arms.
On May 5, 2008, the city received the honorary title "City of Military Glory" from the President of the Russian Federation .
City Day is celebrated on the first Sunday in July .

- 3.79% Yabloko

economy
The city is an important tourist center.
The most important industries in Tuapse include petroleum processing and shipbuilding. A pipeline from Grozny and Maikop , designed by Vladimir Shukhov , was built here in the 1920s . There has been a refinery since 1929, which is now part of Rosneft .

Culture and sights

The central square underwent a thorough redesign in 2012. There is a new fountain, a monument of martial glory, a sundial and a chess field.
Another attraction is the Tuaps sea promenade. From here you can see the control tower of the seaport, which the locals jokingly call Chupa Chups because it looks like a lollipop.
Karl-Marx-Straße is also an important tourist spot. There is a famous avenue of plane trees, several fountains, the "Rossija" cinema, the main post office and the city's largest bookshop. Galina-Petrowa-Straße branches off from Karl-Marx-Straße, on which there are numerous shops and shopping opportunities. The weekly market is at the end of the street.
Most of the nightlife in Tuapse takes place in the "Showtime" entertainment center, which is located on Lenin Square. There is a cinema with two halls, a café, a restaurant and a sushi bar.
Another famous sight is the Kisseljow rock.
