Afipski ( Russian Афипский ) is an urban-type settlement with 18,969 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010) in southern Russia in the Krasnodar Territory (Severskaya Rajon ( Russian Северский район )) on the Afips River . It is located about 15 km from Krasnodar , and about 120 km from the Black Sea .

history

The settlement was founded in 1865 as Stanitsa Georgije-Afipskaja ( Георгие-Афипская ) and originally served as a military base. With the laying of a railway line near Afipski at the end of the 19th century, the place also gained importance for trade. The most important operation in the area is currently an oil refinery.
