Kalininskaya ( Russian Калининская ) is a Staniza in the Krasnodar region in Russia with 13,391 inhabitants (14 October 2010).

geography

The place is a good 50 km as the crow flies north-northwest of the regional administrative center of Krasnodar . It is located on the Ponura river , which is canalised further downstream for irrigation purposes and finally flows a good 25 km northwest into the Angelinski Jerik, the extreme right arm in the delta of the Kuban .

Kalininskaya is the administrative center of the Rajons Kalininski and seat and only town in the rural community Kalininskoje selskoje posselenije. Almost immediately to the southeast is the Stanitsa Starovelitschkowskaja , which has about the same number of inhabitants and also belongs to the Kalininski rajon.

history

In 1794 the settlement of the Popovnichesky kurin was founded as one of the first 40 Cossack settlements in the Kuban area . It was initially located on the right bank of the Kuban and was moved to its current location on the Ponura in 1808. In 1842 the settlement received the status of Stanitsa as Popownitscheskaya .

From 1924 to 1927 Stanitsa was the administrative seat of the short-lived Popownitscheski rajon. On December 31, 1934, it became the center of the newly founded Kaganowitscheski rajon, named after the Soviet politician Lasar Kaganowitsch (1893-1991). On September 12, 1957, the Rajon was renamed Kalininski, after the formal head of state of the Soviet Union until his death in 1946, Mikhail Kalinin . At the same time, the Staniza was given its current name.

On February 1, 1963, the Rajon was temporarily dissolved until it was restored on April 5, 1978 from parts of the neighboring Rajon.
