geography

The place is about 50 km as the crow flies north of the regional administrative center Krasnodar at the confluence of the Kotschety in the Kirpili , a tributary of the Azov Sea .

Medvedovskaya belongs to the Timashovsky Rajon and is located about 20 km south-southeast of its administrative center Timaschewsk . The settlement is the seat of the rural community Medvedovskoye selskoje posselenije, which also includes the hamlets (chutor) Bolshevik (8 km east) and Leninsky (6 km south-east).

history

1794 of from the Zaporozhye Sich resettled Cossacks a Kurinsiedlung on the Taman Peninsula , probably in place of today's Staniza Kurtschanskaja founded, and after their place of origin as Wedmidiwskaja (referred inspired by the Ukrainian equivalent of today's city name, of Ukrainian wedmid, Russian medved for Bear ). Because of frequent attacks by the Circassians originally resident in the area , it was moved in 1809 to its current location, more than 100 km away; nevertheless, 1794 is mostly considered the year of foundation.

Between 1924 and 1927 Staniza was the administrative seat of a Rajon named after it. In 1932/33, during the collectivization of agriculture and the famine , Medvedovskaya was one of the 13 stanizi of the Kuban area who were recorded on a so-called "black table" for allegedly withholding grain. As a result, a large part of the surviving, mainly Ukrainian residents of the Stanitsa (over 4,000) were deported to the northern parts of the country and predominantly Russians from other areas were settled in their place .
