Labinsk ( Russian Лабинск ) is a city with 62,864 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010) in the Krasnodar region in southern Russia . It is located on the right bank of the Laba River , about 180 km east of the regional capital Krasnodar . The closest city is Kurganinsk , around 30 km north of Labinsk.
history
Labinsk was founded in 1841 and was initially called Labinskaya (Лабинская) after the Laba River. Originally it was one of the fortresses that were built along a protective line north of the Caucasus and guarded by Cossacks . Initially mainly inhabited by these, the place developed into a not insignificant trading center by the end of the 19th century, the population of which also consisted of immigrant Russians and Ukrainians. In 1913 Labinskaya was connected to the railway network of the Russian Empire .
During the Second World War , Labinskaya was occupied by the German Wehrmacht from August 1942 to January 1943 and was liberated in the course of the North Caucasian Operation . In the post-war period, the place was quickly rebuilt and expanded to include new industrial companies. In 1947 he received city rights and the name Labinsk.

Economy and Transport
Labinsk is considered to be the center of the food and light industry, another important company in the city is the Chimik paint factory . In the immediate vicinity of the city, mainly agriculture is practiced, which is favored by the fertile Chernosem soil there. Labinsk has a connection to the M29 trunk road and the Labinskaya train station with connections to Kurganinsk and via this also to other cities.
