Tichorezk ( Russian Тихорецк ) is a Russian district town with 61,823 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010). Administratively it belongs to the Krasnodar Territory in southern Russia .
geography
Tichorezk is located 136 km northeast of the regional capital Krasnodar . The Rostov - Baku and Volgograd - Novorossiysk railway lines cross near the city .
history
In 1874 the Tichorezk train station was built and named after the Tichorezkaya settlement on whose territory it was located (today Krasnooktjabrskaya ). In 1895 the hamlet of Tichorezki was founded in the area of the Tichorezkaya settlement, and in 1899 a workshop for repairing steam engines was set up there.
In 1922 Tichorezk received city status and in 1924 it became the district capital.

economy
Today Tichorezk is both an agricultural center and an industrial city, with, among other things, mechanical engineering, light and food industries. There is also a connection point between several oil pipelines.
