Kurganinsk ( Russian Курганинск ) is a city in the Krasnodar region ( Russia ) with 47,970 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The city is located in the northern Caucasus foothills about 130 km east of the regional capital Krasnodar on the right bank of the Laba , a left tributary of the Kuban . The Laba forms the border to the autonomous republic of Adygeja .
Kurganinsk is the administrative center of the raion of the same name .
The city is located on the Armavir - Tuapse railway line , which opened on this section in 1910 , from which a branch line branches off via Labinsk to Schedok or Psebai . The city's station is called Kurgannaja .
history
The place was founded in 1853 by the Cuban Cossacks as Staniza Kurgannaja . The name refers to the larger number of Kurgan in the area.
In 1961, the city was given its current name.
In June 2002 Kurganinsk was affected by a severe flood, in which 800 houses were destroyed, 4,500 were damaged.

Culture and sights
In Kurganinsk, the Church of the Assumption ( Вознесенская церковь / Voznesenskaja zerkow) has been preserved from 1906 to 1916. The city has a municipal museum with an art gallery.

The economy of Kurganinsk as the center of an agricultural area is characterized by the food industry (including sugar factory , canning factory , large dairy ).
