Ilski ( Russian И́льский ) is an urban-type settlement in the southern Russian region of Krasnodar with 23,781 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
geography
The settlement is located on the northwestern edge of the Greater Caucasus about 40 kilometers southwest of the regional capital Krasnodar on the river Il in the catchment area of the Kuban . The intensely agriculturally used Kuban lowlands extend north of the village , while the wooded foothills of the Caucasus rise immediately to the south.
Ilski belongs to Severskaya Rajon , whose administrative center, Stanitsa Severskaya, is about ten kilometers to the east.
history
The place was founded in 1863 as Stanitsa Ilskaya of the Kuban Cossacks . It was named after the river and was the first in the area southwest of Krasnodar, what was then Jekaterinodar. In the same year crude oil was discovered nearby . In 1866 the first oil well was drilled west of the town on the territory of today's Russia.
In 1947 the place received the status of an urban-type settlement as Ilski in connection with the expansion of the base for oil production in the area .

Culture and sights
In Ilski there is a church built between 1871 and 1873.
South of the town, there are several significant storage locations medium Stone Age bison and mammoth hunters, the first in 1898 by French archaeologists discovered Joseph de Baye (1853-1931).
Economy and Infrastructure
Since 1952 there has been a plant in Ilski for clay and barite additives for deep well drilling fluids . There are also companies in the building materials and wood industries and the food industry.
The settlement lies on the railway line Tichorezk - Krasnodar - Novorossiysk (station name Ilskaja ), which was opened in 1888 .
The A146 Krasnodar – Krymsk – Novorossiysk road runs through Ilski .
