history

Sign "Center of the Krasnodar Territory" in Korenovsk

Korenovsk was founded in 1794 by the Zaporozhian Cossacks , who had their base in this place. The original name of the Cossack settlement was Korenewski Kurjen (Кореневский курень) and goes to Zaporozhye in the name of a settlement Sich back. From the middle of the 19th century the settlement existed under the name Korenovskaya (Кореновская) until 1961, when it received city status and was renamed for the last time.

Economy and Transport

There are several food processing plants in Korenovsk, including a permanent and dry milk plant, a sugar factory, a brewery, a poultry plant and a grain storage facility. Thanks to the black earth present here , the area around Korenovsk is a good area for agriculture.

Korenovsk is located on the Russian M 4 trunk road from Moscow to Novorossiysk .

population

Most of the population are Russians of Ukrainian origin. Most are the descendants of the Zaporozhian Cossacks. In Korenovsk as well as in the entire Krasnodar region and neighboring regions of Russia, a southern Russian dialect Surschyk is spoken , especially by the elderly . Surschyk can be distinguished from the classic pronunciation of Russian by its extensive pronunciation of vowels. The most outstanding feature of Surschyk, however, is a soft G-sound without heavy use.

Of the other nationalities, Armenians who emigrated to Korenovsk at the beginning of the 1990s because of the military conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh are most strongly represented in Korenovsk.
