Central Electoral Commission of the Russian Federation

The Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation ( Russian Центральная избирательная комиссия Российской Федерации , often abbreviated Центризбирком, ЦИК  / Zentrisbirkom or ZIK ) is a public institution in Russia whose job it is to prepare presidential and parliamentary elections and referendums and perform.

It was set up in 1995 and first convened in the 1995 Duma elections. The commission consists of 15 members, five of whom are appointed by the President , the Federation Council and the Duma . The commissioners' term of office is usually four years. All other election commissions that take part in the respective election are subordinate to the Central Election Commission .

The tasks of the ZIK in the implementation of elections and votes include:

  • Control of compliance with the applicable electoral law;
  • Registration and admission of candidates;
  • Providing the technical means and equipment to carry out the election;
  • Coordination of the election campaign, granting of uniform rules for election advertising in the mass media;
  • Distribution of state funds made available for election organization and control over their use;
  • Publication of the official election results.

The current chairman of the Central Election Commission has been Ella Pamfilowa since March 28, 2016 .
