Vladimir Wolfowitsch Zhirinovsky
Vladimir Zhirinovsky ( Russian Владимир Вольфович Жириновский ., Scientific transliteration : Vladimir Vol'fovič Žirinovskij * 25. April 1946 in Alma-Ata , Kazakh SSR , as Vladimir Wolfowitsch Eidelstein ) is a Russian politician , lawyer and right-wing extremist . Zhirinovsky is the founder and party leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR), a right-wing extremist Russian nationalist party. Its politics are anti-Semitic and populist .
Life
Vladimir Zhirinovsky was born in Alma-Ata, moved to Moscow in 1964 , where he took the surname of his stepfather, instead of that of his father, the Polish Jew Wolf Eidelstein ( Эйдельштейн ). From 1964 to 1970 he studied at the Lomonosov Moscow State University Turkish Studies (hence he is fluent in Turkish ), incidentally he also studied 1965-1967 International Relations at the University of Marxism-Leninism. From 1972 to 1977 he finally completed a correspondence course in law and later worked as a lawyer .
Political career
In 1989, Shirinovsky founded the LDPSU (renamed LDPR in 1992), which he called the first opposition party in Russia. In 1991, Zhirinovsky took part in the presidential elections of the Russian SFSR and achieved almost eight percent of the votes. In the parliamentary elections in 1993, 1995, 1999 , 2003, 2007 and 2011, his party was elected to the Russian parliament . After the Duma elections in 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2011, Zhirinovsky was each elected one of the deputy Duma chairmen.
Among other things, Shirinovsky demanded the restoration of the old Russian imperial borders from 1917 with Finland , Congress Poland , Belarus and eastern Ukraine in 1992 . The latter was the heartland of the medieval Kievan Rus , which some consider the cradle of the Russian nation.
In December 1993 (at that time the first election to the Duma took place in post-Soviet Russia), Schirinowski questioned the German-Polish demarcation in order to discuss the possible sale of the area around Kaliningrad (the north of the former German East Prussia including Königsberg ) to Germany with the Federal Republic to be able to negotiate.
Zhirinovsky was repeatedly abusive and violent towards political opponents. For example, in a TV duel in June 1995 in front of the camera, he splashed orange juice in the face of Boris Nemtsov , the then governor of Nizhny Novgorod Oblast , after Nemtsov quoted a sentence by Zhirinovsky on a page of Playboy magazine that he was supposed to have boasted: To have slept with 200 women. In 2003, he instigated, during the campaign for parliamentary elections in December 2003 , a mass brawl on to a television broadcast. In February 2008, he attacked and pushed a critic on a talk show .
Shirinowski's language and ideology are shaped by demagogic theories , populism and (despite his own paternal Jewish descent) by anti-Semitism . He denied the existence of Osama bin Laden and Al-Qaeda and, like some conspiracy theorists , claimed that the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 were orchestrated by the US government, perhaps with the help of the Mossad . He claimed that the US Congress was an Israeli occupied territory. In 2007, he proposed detonating Russian atomic bombs in the Atlantic to flood Britain .
In 2010, Zhirinovsky said he was against Russia's membership in NATO .
Vladimir Zhirinovsky was pelted with sauerkraut by a Ukrainian journalist during his January 2013 visit to Ukraine . He asked her about the occasion, to which she replied that he did not love Ukraine.
In May 2013 the parliament of Kyrgyzstan declared Shirinovsky a persona non grata . Zhirinovsky had previously suggested that Kyrgyzstan should cede Lake Issyk- Kul to Russia. In return, Russia is expected to cancel debt of $ 500 million in Kyrgyzstan.
After the annexation of Crimea by Russia , Zhirinovsky sent letters to the governments of Poland , Romania and Hungary proposing a division of Ukraine between Russia and the three countries. The spokesman for the Polish Foreign Ministry expressed his regret that some Russian politicians are still thinking along the lines of the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact . In April 2014, at a press conference, Zhirinovsky called on his bodyguards to rape the pregnant journalist Stella Dubovitskaya. She asked a question about the current war in Ukraine when Zhirinovsky suddenly shouted in the form of a fit of anger: "If I shout 'Christ is risen', you start rape her." The Duma ethics committee then instructed Zhirinovsky publicly to apologize to the insulted journalists, but refrained from imposing a one-month ban on speaking in the Duma.
In connection with the conflict between Russia and Turkey following the shooting down of a Sukhoi Su-24 of the Russian Air Force in 2015 by the Turkish military, he demanded that the Russian government threaten Turkey with a nuclear attack in the event that Turkey locks the Bosphorus - Impose strait for Russian ships. “ It is very easy to destroy Istanbul. All you have to do is drop an atomic bomb on the Bosporus and the city will be flooded, ”said Zhirinovsky in a speech to the Duma .
Zhirinovsky and the European Union
Zhirinovsky claims that Jewish people have conquered the world and rule all corporations and banks in Europe, including Russia. On September 12, 2014, Zhirinovsky was banned from entering the countries of the European Union and his accounts were blocked. Thereupon Zhirinovsky stated in an interview that he interprets the presence of his name on the EU sanctions list as recognition of his services in front of the Russian people, that he is consequently claiming the Order of Merit of the Fatherland, Class II (Class III was awarded to him in 2011) and that this arouses pride and joy in him. He thinks Europe is being oppressed by the US. In his opinion, the European countries will "soon rise" , "pour into the streets in a European Maidan and chase the Americans away". The Order of Merit of the Fatherland Second Class was actually awarded to him on April 18, 2016.
At the beginning of February 2015, during a discussion about current events in Europe on the Sunday evening broadcast on Rossija 1 , Zhirinovsky said : “ Müller wakes up in a cold sweat and turns to Stierlitz , telling him his dream: Stierlitz, you know that now Woman leads the Third Reich and gays instead of soldiers march on the streets of Berlin, can you imagine, not assault detachments , but gays? The Jews all own banks and newspapers, the Russians fight the Ukrainians for Donbass , not for Stalingrad , and the whole farce is directed by a Negro from America. "
Personal
According to his own statements, Zhirinovsky is a believer in the Christian Orthodox faith . Zhirinovsky has been married to the biologist Galina Alexandrovna Lebedewa since the 1970s . The marriage resulted in the son Igor Lebedev , who has been a Duma deputy since 1999 and, like his father, belongs to the LDPR faction.
