The parliamentary election in Russia in 1993 was the first election to the Duma in post-Soviet Russia . It took place on December 12, 1993, a good month after the end of the Russian constitutional crisis , which had led to the dissolution of the parliament (the Supreme Soviet ) by President Boris Yeltsin , which had existed since the Soviet times . The term of office of this first Duma was two years.

On the same day, a referendum was held in Russia on the new constitution of the Russian Federation , which was adopted and entered into force two weeks later.
