Zionist Occupied Government

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Zionist Occupied Government (German: Zionist occupied government , abbreviated to ZOG ) is a political catchphrase used in right-wing extremist - anti-Semitic circles . It refers to the conspiracy theory of world Jewry , imagined as homogeneous , which allegedly makes use of globalization to secretly control various national governments.

Concept history

anti-Semitic "ZOG" graffiti with the words "Crush ZOG" (German: "destroy Zionist occupied government") on a garage wall.

The acronym ZOG first appeared in 1976 in a pamphlet by the American neo-Nazi Eric Thomson. Then in 1978 William Luther Pierce , a member of the American Nazi Party , used it in his novel The Turner Diaries . It tells how white Christian patriots in the United States start a guerrilla war against the supposedly Jewish-controlled government in Washington, which is trying to take away their right to bear arms. The novel ends with the rebels launching a nuclear strike against Israel .

The term became more popular in 1984 when the New York Times reported on it. The term spread among numerous right-wing groups in the United States, from racists who believe in white supremacy to supporters of the American militia movement to Christian fundamentalists like Randy Weaver who believe they are living in the end times . The Christian Identity Movement , which assumes that only the whites are descended from Adam , while Jews are descendants of Satan , stigmatizes the US government as "occupied by Zionists". Their followers therefore refuse to pay taxes and reject state identification documents as the " mark of the beast " ( Rev 13:16  EU ). They contributed to the change in anti-Semitic stereotypes in the United States, from the traditional image of the despised diaspora Jew to the present day, where American right-wing extremists believe that Judaism is a political power striving for world domination . Right-wing terrorist Timothy McVeigh viewed his 1995 bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City as a blow to the ZOG. Since the 1990s, the catchphrase has also been used by right-wing extremists in other western countries such as Germany, also as a code word , often combined with an anti-American thrust.

The term Zionist Occupied Government is aimed centrally against globalism , i.e. the idea that international cooperation and globalization bring advantages for everyone involved. In doing so, he takes up the old idea of a Jewish world conspiracy , as outlined in the Protocols of the Elders of Zion . There it is claimed that wealthy Jews would conspire to establish a world government . The conspiracy theories surrounding this term assume that the media, finance, schools and liberal politicians are controlled by Jews. The latter would lead them to advocate affirmative action for real equality for African Americans , the right to abortion , gun control , immigration and multiculturalism . The foreign policy of the United States towards Israel and its membership in the United Nations and other international organizations, which would prepare an extensive renunciation of its sovereignty and self-determination, is often given as evidence . Some conspiracy theorists believe the United States armed forces are preparing to seize all firearms in the country that are still in the hands of "patriots" and enforce a state of emergency . Others see the Jewish-led conspiracy in which they believe a sign of the approaching rule of the Antichrist , which God himself would destroy in the final apocalyptic battle of Armageddon .
