Krisztián Tóth

Krisztián Tóth (born May 1, 1994 in Darmstadt ) is a Hungarian judoka . He was World Championship runner-up in 2014 and European Championship runner-up in 2016 in the middleweight division, the weight class up to 90 kilograms.

Athletic career

Krisztián Tóth was second in the 2009 Cadet World Championships in the weight class up to 73 kilograms. In 2010 Tóth won the Hungarian championships in the U17, U20 and U23 age groups in the weight class up to 81 kilograms. At the European Cadet Championships he won a bronze medal. The Youth Olympic Games took place in Singapore in August 2010 . Tóth was defeated in the semifinals to the Russian Khassan Chalmursajew , but won the battle for bronze against the Turkish Batuhan Efemgil . Later in 2010, Tóth finished fifth at the U20 European Championships and won a bronze medal at the Junior World Championships. In 2011 he won a bronze medal at the U20 European Championships, was fifth in the Junior World Championships and won the U23 European Championships. In between he won the Hungarian championship in the weight class up to 90 kilograms.

From 2012, the 1.74 m tall Krisztián Tóth generally fought in the middleweight division. In 2012 he was Hungarian champion in this weight class and third in the U23 European Championships. In August 2013 he took part in the World Championships in Rio de Janeiro. In the quarterfinals he was defeated by the Cuban Asley González , he lost the battle for bronze to the Russian Kirill Denisov . In October he won his third Hungarian championship title in the adult class, but only finished seventh in the Junior World Championships. In November he won the U23 European Championships. In 2014 he won the Hungarian championships for the fourth time. At the European Championships in Montpellier he was defeated in the semifinals to the Georgian Warlam Liparteliani , in the battle for bronze he defeated Shahin Gahramanov from Azerbaijan. In June 2014 he reached the final at the Grand Prix tournament in Budapest, where he was defeated by the Japanese Daiki Nishiyama . At the 2014 World Championships in Chelyabinsk, he defeated Warlam Liparteliani in the quarter-finals and the Russian Kirill Voprosow in the semi- finals, and lost the final to the Greek Ilias Iliadis . Two months after the World Championships in the adult class, the Junior World Championships took place in Fort Lauderdale and Krisztián Tóth won here. A week later he won the Grand Slam tournament in Abu Dhabi . He ended the year with a fifth place at the U23 European Championships.

In June 2015, the European Championships were held in Baku as part of the 2015 European Games . In the semifinals Tóth lost to Kirill Denissow, then he lost the battle for bronze against the Dutchman Guillaume Elmont . At the 2015 World Championships in Astana, he finished seventh. Between the two championships he had won his fifth Hungarian championship title. At the 2016 European Championships in Kazan, Tóth reached the final without a fight against French Alexandre Iddir , where he was defeated by Warlam Liparteliani. In June he won the Grand Prix tournament in Budapest. At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , he defeated the Kenyan Kiplangat Sang in his opening fight . In his second fight he was eliminated from the Chinese Cheng Xunzhao .

In May 2017 Krisztián Tóth lost to the Japanese Kenta Nagasawa in the final of the Grand Slam tournament in Yekaterinburg . At the 2017 World Championships in Budapest , he reached the semi-finals with a quarter-final victory over Mammadali Mehdiyev . Then he was defeated in the semi-finals to the Serb Nemanja Majdov and in the battle for bronze to the South Korean Gwak Dong-han . In 2018 Tóth was eliminated from the European Championships in Tel Aviv in his second fight against the Turkish Batuhan Efemgil. After winning the Budapest Grand Prix, he entered the 2018 World Championships in Baku . In the quarterfinals he defeated the German Eduard Trippel , then he lost in the semifinals to the Spaniard Nikoloz Sherazadishvili and in the battle for bronze Kenta Nagasawa. A month after the World Championships, he reached the final at the Grand Slam tournament in Abu Dhabi, where he lost to the Russian Michail Igolnikow . At the end of 2018, Tóth reached the final of the Masters tournament in Guangzhou and was defeated by Nikoloz Sherazadishvili.

At the beginning of 2019, Tóth took third place at the Grand Slam tournaments in Paris and Baku . where he won in the battle for bronze against the Israeli Li Kochman . In 2019 the European Championships took place as part of the European Games 2019 in Minsk, Krisztián Tóth was eliminated in the round of 16 against Li Kochman. At the Universiade 2019 he won a bronze medal; he had lost his opening match against the Brazilian Gustavo Assis , but then won four fights in the round of hope. At the 2019 World Championships in Tokyo, he lost to the Swede Marcus Nyman in the quarter-finals . After a win against Cuban Iván Felipe Silva and a defeat against Nemanja Majdov, Tóth finished fifth in the world championships for the third time in a row.
