Frédéric Demontfaucon

Frédéric Demontfaucon (born December 24, 1973 in Le Creusot ) is a former French judoka . He won an Olympic bronze medal in 2000 and was world champion in 2001.

Athletic career

The 1.82 m tall demontfaucon started until 1997 with a middle weight of up to 86 kilograms. After the reform of the weight classes he fought mostly in the middleweight up to 90 kilograms until 2007, at the end of his career he rose to the light heavyweight up to 100 kilograms.

In 1994 Demontfaucon took third place at the student world championships. At the Judo World Championships in 1995 he was defeated in the quarter-finals to the Russian Oleg Maltsew and in the battle for the bronze medal to the Canadian Nicolas Gill , in the end he finished fifth. At the 1996 Olympic Games , Darcel Yandzi competed for France. At the end of 1996 Demontfaucon took third place at the student world championships.

In 2000 he won the Tournoi de Paris . At the European Championships in 2000 he finished fifth after losing to the Dutchman Mark Huizinga and the Ukrainian Ruslan Maschurenko . Maschurenko was also his opponent in the first fight at the Olympic Games in Sydney ; this time Demontfaucon won, who only lost in the semifinals to the Brazilian Carlos Honorato . In the battle for bronze, the French defeated the Azerbaijani Rasul Salimov .

2001 Demontfaucon was defeated in the final of the Tournoi de Paris to the Japanese Masatoshi Tobitsuka . At the European Championships he lost in the semifinals to Mark Huizinga, but won the battle for bronze against the Pole Przemyslaw Matyjaszek . At the World Championships in Munich he defeated Rasul Salimow in the first round and the South Korean Yoon Dong-sik , the two bronze medalists, in the semifinals . In the final Demontfaucon won against the Georgian Surab Swiadauri .

After two weaker years Demontfaucon 2004 again reached the finals at Tournoi de Paris and was defeated by the Japanese Hiroshi Izumi . After fifth place at the European Championships, he retired from the Olympic Games in Athens after defeats against Zurab Swiadauri and against the Russian Chassanbi Taow . In October 2004 the French team won the title at the European Team Championships. 2006 followed bronze at the team world championships.

At the Judo European Championships in 2007 Demontfaucon appeared for the first time internationally in the light heavyweight division and lost in his first fight against the Russian Ruslan Gasimow . After four wins in the Hope Round, the French received the bronze medal. In 2007 he won the World Cup in Baku. After his first round defeat at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing against the Israeli Ariel Zeevi , Frédéric Demontfaucon's career ended.
