Ruslan Mashurenko

Ruslan Oleksandrovytsch Maschurenko ( Ukrainian Руслан Олександрович Машуренко ; born March 13, 1971 ) is a former Ukrainian judoka . He won an Olympic bronze medal in 2000.

Career

The 1.84 m tall Maschurenko competed in the middleweight division. Until 1997 this was the weight class up to 86 kg, from 1998 to 90 kg.

At the Judo World Championships in 1993 he lost his third fight against the Uzbek Armen Bagdasarov , with three wins in the hope round, Maschurenko then fought his way to the bronze medal, which he lost to the Romanian Adrian Croitoru . At the end of 1993 the Ukrainian won the World Cup tournament in Basel, and at the beginning of 1994 he won the traditional tournament in Paris. At the European Championships in Gdansk in 1994 he was defeated in his first fight by the French Vincenzo Carabetta , then he got three wins in the hope round before he was defeated again in the battle for bronze against Adrian Croitoru. At the end of 1994, Maschurenko won the student world championships. At the European Championships in 1995 he was defeated in the semifinals against the Georgian Iveri Jikurauli , then he won the fight for the bronze medal against the Spaniard Fernando González. At the Judo World Championships in 1995 he defeated Jikurauli and Bagdasarov before losing to Canadian Nicolas Gill in the quarterfinals . After another victory he was defeated by the Russian Oleg Malzew in the battle for the bronze medal. Also at the European Championships in 1996, Maschurenko finished fifth after losing to the Dutchman Mark Huizinga and the British Ryan Birch . At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta he won his first fight and then lost to Adrian Croitoru. In the first fight of the round of hope, Maschurenko lost to the Japanese Hidehiko Yoshida .

At the Judo World Championships in 1997 , Maschurenko won his first three fights, then he lost in the semi-finals to the German Marko Spittka , then he lost the fight for bronze against the Italian Michele Monti . After two weaker years he reached the medal ranks in four world cup tournaments in early 2000. At the European Championships in 2000 he was defeated in his third fight against the Azerbaijani Rasul Salimov , with three wins in the hoping round, most recently against the French Frédéric Demontfaucon , he secured the bronze medal. At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 he was defeated in his first fight against Frédéric Demontfaucon, with four Ippon wins in the hope round, Maschurenko then fought his way to the bronze medal. Maschurenko was still active internationally until 2003, but after 2000 he did not get any top placements in international championships.
