Masato Uchishiba ( Japanese 内 柴 正人 , Uchishiba Masato ; born June 17, 1978 in Kōshi , Kumamoto Prefecture , Japan ) is a half -light weight judoka .

He won the gold medal at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens against the Slovak Jozef Krnac . He was able to repeat this success in 2008 at the Olympic Games in Beijing against the French Benjamin Darbelet. This makes him one of the most successful judoka in history.

He finished second at the 2005 World Cup in Cairo . At the Universiade in Beijing in 2001 he won the gold medal.

In May 2014, the Japanese Supreme Court sentenced him to five years' imprisonment. He was accused of raping a student while she was sleeping while coaching a university team in September 2011. Uchishiba alleged that the victim consented to sexual intercourse.
