Neil Eckersley
Neil Eckersley (born April 5, 1964 in Bolton ) is a former British judoka who won an Olympic bronze medal in super light weight in 1984.
The 1.68 m tall Eckersley won bronze at the Junior European Championships in 1983. At the European Championships in 1984 , he finished fifth. Three months later at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles he was defeated in the semifinals to the Japanese Shinji Hosokawa , in the battle for bronze the Briton defeated the Italian Felice Mariani .
1987 Eckersley won bronze at the European Championships. At the Judo World Championships in 1987 , he finished seventh. In 1988, like in 1987, he won bronze at the European Championships. At the Olympic Games in Los Angeles Eckersley won his first two fights, but then lost to Sheu Tsay-Chwan from Chinese Taipei and finished in 14th place.
Eckersley lives as an artist in Stavanger, Norway.
