Patrick Roux

Patrick Roux (born April 29, 1962 in Alès ) is a former French judoka . He was European champion and third in the world championship in 1987.

Athletic career

The 1.72 m tall Patrick Roux mostly competed in the super lightweight, the weight class up to 60 kilograms. He took second place at the Tournoi de Paris in 1982 . At the European Championships in 1984 in Liège he was defeated in the semifinals by Chasret Tlezeri from the Soviet Union, with a victory over the Briton Neil Eckersley, Roux won a bronze medal. In late 1984, Roux won a bronze medal at the student world championships. In 1985 he won his first French national championship. At the 1985 European Championships in Hamar, he lost again in the semifinals against Chasret Zlezeri. In the battle for bronze he defeated Pavel Petřikov from Czechoslovakia. One month after the European Championships, Roux won a bronze medal at the Military World Championships, his only international medal in the half-light weight, the weight class up to 65 kilograms. In 1986 he won the French championships for the second time, starting again in the super lightweight. At the European Championships in Belgrade in 1986 , he lost for the third time in a row against Tlezeri, but this time already in the quarterfinals. With victories in the hope round over Neil Eckersley, the Italian Marino Cattedra and the Romanian Gheorge Dani , Roux fought his way to the bronze medal, the third in a row. In late 1986 he reached the final at the Student World Championships and lost to the South Korean Kim Jae-yup .

In 1987, Roux reached the finals at the Tournoi de Paris for the second time after 1982 and finished second like in 1982. The 1987 European Championships also took place in Paris . In the final, Roux met Chasret Tlezeri and won the title. At the Mediterranean Games in Latakia, Syria, Roux won the title by beating the Turkish Haldun Efemgil in the final . At the end of 1987 the world championships took place in Essen . Roux lost to Kim Jae-yup in the last sixteen. In the hope round he defeated the Australian Gino Giampa , the British Neil Eckersley and Chatib Khachak from the Soviet Union and received a bronze medal. The following year, Roux reached the final at the European Championships in 1988 as defending champion and lost to Amiran Totikashvili from the Soviet Union. At the Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988 Roux defeated the Hungarian József Csák in the quarter-finals . In the semifinals he lost to Kim Jae-yup and in the battle for bronze he was defeated by Amiran Totikashvili, so that Roux took fifth place in the final bill.
