Isabelle Paque

Isabelle Paque (born May 8, 1964 ) is a former French judoka . She was European heavyweight champion in 1987.

Athletic career

Isabelle Paque started in the light heavyweight division, the weight class up to 72 kilograms. In 1985 she switched to the heavyweight division. In 1986, 1987 and 1988 she was French champion in this weight class, and in 1986 she also won the open class.

Paque won her first international medal at the 1986 European Championships in London. After losing to the British Sandra Bradshaw in the quarter-finals , she received a bronze medal after beating the Italian Maria Teresa Motta and the Dutch Carla van Gameren . In October at the 1986 World Championships in Maastricht, she lost in the semifinals to the Chinese Gao Fenglian , in the battle for bronze she won against the German Regina Sigmund . Two months later she became the student world champion. 1987 at the European Championships in Paris Paque won in the semifinals against the British Joanne Spinks and in the final against the Dutch Angelique Seriese . At the 1987 World Championships in Essen, she was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the heavyweight division against Seriese. In the open class she reached the semi-finals, where she lost to Belgian Ingrid Berghmans . With a win over Nilmari Santini from Puerto Rico, Paque won a bronze medal. At the European Championships in Pamplona in 1988 Paque reached the final in the heavyweight division again. After her loss to Angelique Seriese, she received the silver medal.

In the summer of 1988 Paque moved two weight classes down to middleweight (up to 66 kilograms). In doing so, she avoided Nathalie Lupino and Laetitia Meignan . At the French championships in 1989, however, she was defeated by Claire Lecat and did not qualify for international championships.
