Nilmari Santini

Nilmari Santini Martin , also Nilmarí Santini Martin , (born May 25, 1959 , † March 25, 2006 in San Juan ) was a Puerto Rican judoka . She was third in the 1986 World Cup and won the 1987 Pan American Games.

Athletic career

Nilmari Santini fought in the heavyweight division or in the open class. At the Pan American Championships in Mexico City in 1984, she competed in both weight classes. In the heavyweight division she finished second behind Alisson Henry from Venezuela, in the open class she won the title with a final victory over Heidi Bauersachs from the United States. Six months later, the 1984 World Championships took place in Vienna . In the heavyweight division, she lost to the Italian Maria Teresa Motta in the quarterfinals . She lost the battle for bronze to Margaret Castro from the United States, so Santini finished fifth. 1986 Santini won the heavyweight title at the Pan American Championships.
