Maria Teresa Motta (born April 19, 1963 in Sanremo ) is a former Italian judoka . She was world champion in 1984 and European champion in 1983.

Athletic career

Maria Teresa Motta was Italian light heavyweight champion in 1977, 1978 and 1979. Then she switched to heavyweight. In 1981 she was second in the Italian championships behind Margherita De Cal . In 1982, 1984 to 1987, as well as 1989 and 1990, Motta was Italian heavyweight champion, winning a total of ten titles.

Her first international success was winning a bronze medal in the open class at the European Championships in Madrid in 1981 . In 1982 in Oslo she took fifth place in the open class. At the 1982 World Championships in Paris she won the quarterfinals of the heavyweight division against the German Christiane Kieburg and lost in the semifinals against the French Nathalie Lupino . At the European Championships in 1984 in Pirmasens, Motta won bronze in the heavyweight division, in the open class she reached the final and then lost to Nathalie Lupino. Eight months later at the 1984 World Championships in Vienna, Motta only competed in the heavyweight division.
