Akira Sone

Akira Sone ( Japanese 素 根 輝 Sone Akira ; born July 9, 2000 ) is a Japanese judoka . She won the heavyweight championships in 2019.

Athletic career

Akira Sone won the U18 World Championships in 2015. In 2016 and 2017 she reached the final of the Grand Slam tournament in Tokyo and was defeated by her compatriot Sarah Asahina both times . In 2017 she won the U21 World Championships. At the Asian Games in Jakarta in 2018 , she defeated the South Korean Kim Min-jeong in the final . At the Grand Slam tournament in Osaka at the end of 2018, she defeated Asahina in the semifinals, in the final she was defeated by Cuban Idalys Ortíz .

At the 2019 World Championships in Tokyo she defeated the Slovenian Anamari Velenšek in the round of 16 , Larisa Cerić from Bosnia-Herzegovina in the quarter-finals and the Turkish Kayra Sayit in the semi-finals . In the final, she won against Idalys Ortíz in extra time with a penalty.
