Sun Fuming ( Chinese  孫 福明 ; born April 14, 1974 in Tieling ) is a former Chinese judoka who was 1996 Olympic champion in the weight class over 72 kilograms.

Career

Sun Fuming won the bronze medal in the open class at the 1995 Summer Universiade in Fukuoka in August 1995 . At the Judo World Championships in 1995 in Chiba, she was defeated in the final of the open class against Monique van der Lee from the Netherlands. In December 1995 Sun Fuming lost at the tournament in Fukuoka in the final of the Open Class against the Cuban Estela Rodríguez . In March 1996 Sun Fuming won the World Cup in Rome. In July 1996 she competed at the Atlanta Olympics . After a bye in the first round, she won against the British Michelle Rogers , the German Johanna Hagn and the Russian Swetlana Gundarenko . In the final she won with a small score over Estela Rodríguez. At the tournament in Fukuoka at the end of the year, Sun Fuming and her compatriot Yuan Hua met in both the heavyweight finals and the open class finals, Yuan Hua won the heavyweight division and Sun Fuming won the open class.

At the Judo World Championships in 1997 , Sun Fuming won the bronze medal in the heavyweight division. In November 1997 she won the South Asian Games in Busan. At the December tournament in Fukuoka Sun Fuming won the open class and took third place in the heavyweight division, Yuan Hua won the heavyweight division. In January 1999 Sun Fuming took third place in the open class at the tournament in Fukuoka and in April 1999 she won the World Cup in 's-Hertogenbosch. At the Chinese national championships in Qingdao in 2000, she met Yuan Hua again in two finals. Sun Fuming won the open class and lost to her competitor in the heavyweight division. A month later she won the Asian Championships in the open class. At the 2000 Olympic Games , Yian Hua competed and also won the gold medal.

In 2001 Sun Fuming won the tournament in Qingdao and the East Asian Championships in the open class, in December she won in Fukuoka. In 2002 she took part in the Asian Games in Busan and won the heavyweight division, while her compatriot Tong Wen won the open class . At the Judo World Championships in 2003 in Osaka, Sun Fuming won her only heavyweight world title, Tong Wen also won the open class here. In August 2004, Sun Fuming took part in the Olympic Games in Athens . After two quick victories by Ippon in the first two fights, she lost in the fight for the final against the Cuban Daima Beltrán . Sun Fuming was able to secure the bronze medal by beating the Ukrainian Maryna Prokofiewa .

The 1.78 m tall Sun Fuming competed in international heavyweight and open class competitions. Her weight was given when she participated in the Olympics as 114 kilograms in 1996 and 124 kilograms in 2004.
