Nathalie "Natalina" Lupino (born June 13, 1963 in Valenciennes ) is a former French judoka . She won an Olympic bronze medal and was world and European champion.

Athletic career

The 1.70 m tall judoka mostly competed in the heavyweight division (at that time from 72 kilograms) or in the open class. In December 1982 she won the heavyweight title at the World Championships in Paris against the US judoka Margaret Castro . At the end of January 1983, Lupino won the French championships for the first time. At the European Championships in 1983 she reached the final, but lost to the Italian Maria Teresa Motta . In 1984 Lupino won her second French championship. At the European Championships in 1984 Lupino reached the final twice. In the heavyweight division she lost to Marjolein van Unen from the Netherlands , and in the open class she won against Maria Teresa Motta. At the world championships in 1984 she won a bronze medal in the open class by defeating the Pole Beata Maksymow . 1985 Lupino fought in the light heavyweight division and also won the French championship here. Only in 1989 did Lupino win the French heavyweight championship again. At the European Championships she lost to Beata Maksymow, in the battle for bronze she defeated Maria Teresa Motta. Five months later at the World Championships in Belgrade she was defeated by the German Regina Sigmund in the heavyweight semi-finals , and in the battle for bronze she defeated the Cuban Estela Rodríguez . In the open class, Lupino dropped out against Ingrid Berghmans and the Japanese Yōko Tanabe . At the European Championships in 1990 Lupino only started in the open class, in the final she was defeated by Briton Sharon Lee . A year later she was defeated early by the Dutch Monique van der Lee , in the battle for bronze she won against Sharon Lee. At the 1991 World Championships in Barcelona , she lost in the open class early to the German Claudia Weber , but then fought her way to the bronze medal. At the European Championships in 1992 she also received bronze in the open class. At the Olympic premiere of women's judo in Barcelona in 1992 there were seven weight classes, but no open class. Lupino won three heavyweight competitions until she lost in the semifinals to Cuban Estela Rodríguez, in the battle for bronze Lupino won against Claudia Weber.
