Michelle Rogers

Michelle Rogers (born January 21, 1976 in Salford ) is a British judoka .

Rogers began judo at the age of nine and eventually reached the black belt at age 16. In 1994 she won the title at the European Junior Championships. At the European Judo Championships in 1996 she started for the first time and won the bronze medal in the 72 kg class. In Atlanta she reached ninth place in the heavyweight class (over 72 kg) at the 1996 Summer Olympics . A year later, at the 1997 European Judo Championships in Ostend , she won the silver medal; in the same year she came in fifth place at the 1997 Judo World Championships . 2001 Rogers won again the bronze medal at the European Championships. At the 2001 Judo World Championships , which took place shortly afterwards , she reached seventh place. She won the gold medal in her class at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in her home town of Manchester . At the European Judo Championships in Belgrade in 2007 , she won the bronze medal again. She also achieved this success at the Super World Cup in Moscow . At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing , she started in the light heavyweight class (up to 78 kg) and ended up in ninth place, as in 1996.
