Émilie Andéol (born October 30, 1987 in Bordeaux ) is a French heavyweight judoka and Olympic champion at the 2016 Olympic Games in London .

Career

Andéol won the bronze medal in 2007 and silver at the U23 European Championships in 2008. In 2010 she won her first French championship. In 2011 she won the European Student Championships. Andéol won three bronze medals at the Universiade in Shenzhen : in the heavyweight division, in the open class and in the team competition. At the end of 2011 she defended her French championship title. Her greatest success in 2012 was winning the World Cup in Rome after Anne-Sophie Mondière competed for France in the heavyweight division at the London Olympics . At the end of 2012, Andèol won her third French championship title.

At the European Judo Championships in 2013 Andéol lost in the final against the Slovenian Lucija Polavder , in the team classification the Dutch team won ahead of the French. four months later, Andéol finished fifth at the Judo World Championships in 2013 , with the team she received the bronze medal. The fourth national championship title in a row followed in November. In 2014 she won gold both individually and with the team at the European Championships in Montpellier . At the World Championships in Chelyabinsk, Andéol won the bronze medal in the individual ranking, with the French team she received the gold medal. The 2015 European Championships took place as part of the European Games in Baku , Andéol won the individual and team titles. In 2016, Andéol only finished seventh at the European Championships . At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , she defeated the Cuban defending champion Idalys Ortíz in the final and received the gold medal. For her Olympic victory she received the Knight's Cross of the Legion of Honor at the end of 2016 .
