Norbert Nieroba (born April 29, 1964 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a former German amateur and professional boxer.

amateur

Norbert Nieroba boxed as an amateur for the BSK Ahlen and won the German amateur championship in the light middleweight division for the first time in 1985. He was able to successfully defend this title several times in the following years and took part in the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul . In 1992 he won the German middleweight championship and defeated Sven Ottke . Norbert Nieroba boxed 24 times in the national relay and won 210 of his 260 amateur fights.

Professional career

The trained gas and water plumber, who worked full-time for the Stadtwerke Ahlen, decided to enter professional business in 1995 and was trained by Günther Radowski in his spare time. In 1996 the counter boxer won the German super middleweight championship against Andreas Marks by knocking out. In August 1997, Norbert Nieroba boxed in the supporting program of Axel Schulz in Berlin against Frank Tate for the world championship in light heavyweight of the WBU association and lost just on points. In April 1998, he beat the South African Bald Botes on points and won the WBU World Super Middleweight Championship. Already in his first title defense he was defeated by Nordin ben Salah in the Philipshalle in Düsseldorf on points. In December 2001, Nieroba won the German light heavyweight championship and ended his professional career.

In addition to his main job at the municipal utilities, Nieroba trains the junior boxers of the BSK Ahlen and has already led some of them to title successes.
