Jutta Niehaus

Judith "Jutta" Niehaus , married. Tiemann (born January 10, 1964 in Bocholt ) is a former German cyclist .

Jutta Niehaus was one of the most successful female cyclists in Europe in the 1980s, on the road and on the track . From 1981 she was part of the national team of the Association of German Cyclists , and in 1984 she took part in the UCI road world championships for the first time.

In 1988 Niehaus started in the road race at the Olympic Games in Seoul and won the silver medal in the sprint just behind the Dutchwoman Monique Knol . At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona she fell in a road race and was therefore only 44. In total, Jutta Niehaus won three German championships, 13 vice championships, was sixth twice in world championships and won one stage each at the Tour Cycliste Féminin and at the Giro d ' Italia Femminile . In 1992 she retired from cycling.

For winning the silver medal at the 1988 Olympic Games, she received the Silver Laurel Leaf.

In 1988 Jutta Niehaus was voted the first “cyclist of the year” and a second time in the year after.

Today Jutta Niehaus works for the Bocholt city administration.
