Verena Jooss (born January 9, 1979 in Karlsruhe ) is a former German cyclist .

Verena Jooss, specializing in the 3,000-m individual pursuit on the track , owned by the RC 1899 Ludwigshafen-Friesenheim and drove for the team Rothaus-Vita Classica Bad Krozingen , previously to 2004 for RG Team German wine road-Rülzheim . She was trained by Olaf Klein. The Karlsruhe native only came to cycling in 2001; before that, she had competed in athletics since 1985 (800 m run and heptathlon ). Despite osteoarthritis, she did sport in both ankles.

In 2004 Jooß was third in the German championship in points and won the title in the single pursuit. The following year she won the title again and was eighth in this discipline at the UCI Track World Championships in Los Angeles . In Moscow and Manchester there were also fourth places in the World Cup . At the 2006 World Cup in Bordeaux , Jooss was again eighth. In 2007 the third German championship title followed in the single pursuit and third place in the 500 m time trial . At the World Cup in Los Angeles, she finished second and ninth at the World Cup in Spain. So far, she has won 13 races and placed in the top 15 52 times.

In the Track World Championships 2008 in Manchester Jooß finished tenth and lost her on the World Cup list seemed to be sure the launch site for the 2008 Olympic Games of Beijing . After completing the UCI world rankings, she was tied with the Swiss Karin Thürig in ninth place. After only the Swiss woman was nominated by the international association, the BDR protested and Verena Jooß was allowed to start at the games. In the single pursuit she came in eleventh place, in the points race she did not reach the goal.

At the German Railway Championships 2010 in Cottbus , Verena Jooss took third place in the 500 m time trial; the following year she was German champion in the team sprint in Berlin (with Miriam Welte ). In 2012 she was third in the team pursuit and third in the Keirin at the Bahn-DM in Frankfurt / Oder together with Mieke Kröger and Kathrin Hammes .

Verena Jooß ended her active career as a competitive athlete in October 2012. She works as a teacher for mathematics and music at the Pestalozzi School in Ettlingen (as of 2010) and worked as an athletics trainer at SSV Ettlingen.
