Erik Hochstein

Erik Hochstein (born October 1, 1968 in Düsseldorf ) is a swimming athlete from the Federal Republic of Germany who won an Olympic bronze medal in 1988.

Hochstein started for the SG Bochum-Wattenscheid. In 1986 he first appeared in the German national team at the European Short Course Cup. At the European Swimming Championships in 1987, Hochstein was part of the squad, but was not used in the relay finals. At the German Swimming Championships in 1988 he took third place behind Michael Groß and Thomas Fahrner over 200 meters freestyle . He qualified for the Olympic Games in Seoul . There he was the starting swimmer of the German 4 x 200 meter freestyle relay, which won the bronze medal behind the relay teams from the USA and the GDR in the line-up of Hochstein, Fahrner, Henkel and Groß. At the European Swimming Championships in 1989, Hochstein was again part of the 4 x 200 meter relay, which won the silver medal behind the Italian relay but ahead of the team from the GDR with the cast of Peter Sitt , Martin Herrmann , Erik Hochstein and Stefan Pfeiffer .

Erik Hochstein studied at the University of Southern California , where he later also worked as a swimming coach. Erik Hochstein is still active as a senior swimmer in the 40+ class.
